Essential (as opposed to gratuitous)Dog Photos

I am still in a state of wonder over Auggie’s recovery, and seeing him here in his usual pose on the couch fills me with emotion. He is vigorous and joyous, insatiably hungry, and insatiably ball-mad. I have already lost track of the exact day we got the cone off him, so I went back to look at the photos on my phone, which I use as a diary of my life.

That’s when I came upon these, from the day the collar came off, less than a month ago. Until the stitches were out and healing, he was not allowed to come on the bed. This was upsetting to us all.

Until this moment, Auggie had never allowed Eli to love him before.

Dogs are pure soul.

Here’s Auggie this morning, all snoozy and safe.

I am grateful beyond words.

  1. Love those pictures and especially the two with Auggie and Eli together-it is such a privilege to have a dog/dogs as part of the family. They have such beautiful hearts and natures, and those photos clearly show both.

  6. No doubt it is the spirit of Moses looking over Auggie and over you. A third loss was not to be allowed.

Pete and Moses are always there for you.

  10. Bros. Dogs were my first friends as an only child. I cannot imagine life without them. So glad that your Auggie is on the mend. I still miss starting my morning with you on twitter. Still miss Pete. Thank you for sharing.

  11. We are so happy he is better and thank you for your daily bits of sanity, I love listening to and reading Charlie’s bits but sometimes you just need to get away from the world. I am grateful for him mentioning your book being published years ago. I have suggested them to all my friends.

These are our rescues. When Covid hit my son and grandchildren ages 11 and 13 built a 20 X 30 foot post and beam barn and we rescued the 2 horses. My dog loves them! [image: IMG_0196.jpeg]
