Dad’s working late tonight, but I have lovely company. Since Auggie’s illness the Germans have grown more affectionate with one another. I see them through the kitchen window as they’re playing together, and it surprises and delights me. They romp and hide and pounce on one another just as Moses and Auggie used to do. I’m not sure what’s different, but maybe dogs share with human beings the appreciation of things almost lost.
We are in bed with a fire in the fireplace and some Irish whisky to go along with a good book. The dogs are not particularly interested in whisky or books, but they do enjoy comfort.

Sweet dreams.
Love it.

Absolutely lovely. For me it would be Bailey’s Irish Cream, but yes. A book, a fire, and dogs. Sweet dreams.

I so appreciate your writing and have missed seeing your daily posts on twitter with all the updates on Auggie & Eli, the turkeys and glimpses of life in Wisconsin. It’s the everyday doings that you write about in your essays, which can be funny or sad (or sometimes both) that are very touching & poignant. Thank you for continuing to post here with photos!. I signed up for your emails.
I am so glad that Auggie is almost mended.

Hello from India! Love your little stories. Happy that Auggie is well again. I have had a torrid month with doggie illnesses as well. Second one still on the mend.
By the way, I love Alexander McCall Smith – the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series is delightful. Happy holidays!

I love how you write. And I’m so happy that the boys are doing so well. I’ve often wondered if Eli has sensed the distress and fragility of Auggie’s life during his illness. I’m sure he has. And, now that Auggie is blessedly well, they don’t hesitate to show their love for each other. Also, I now have another book selection to add to my list. Sweet dreams to all.

It’s great to hear Auggie & Eli are getting along so well after Auggie’s illness. I honestly believe they know. When we lost our last Sheltie dog, the cat mourned her for months. She had lost her playmate & friend.
