Well, those of us enamored with these beasties will not take “gratuitous” without that knowing smile. Our current Wild Child isn’t a “couch surfer”…none have ever been allowed that..but the sight of her finally caving in to fatigue on her sheepskin rug after throughly exhausting her 2 keepers (76 yrs we are)….well, still melts our hearts….damn this love which has so often been blessed, and hurt by loss, through now the 7th time. Shalom
We too are in our late seventies and have currently relinquished our sofa to our ten year old lab. We struggle with the idea of a new puppy since she/he may outlive us. And yet it is unthinkable to live without a dog should our darling leave us in a few years.
Both my mother and godmother had their dogs almost and completely to the end, respectively. My job was to find a home for my godmother’s dog after she died. He was adopted by bookstore owners I knew.
Last night I had a terrible dream that left me with what I think was close to a panic attack. I was frantic but then I suddenly remembered this picture and found it again. I sat and looked at it for several minutes and the gentle, calm, peaceful, totally relaxed look on his face, even with the ear sticking up (!), seemed to slowly seep into me and help me recover. I’ll bet you had no idea your blogs and pictures could be so helpful and just wanted you to know. Thank you.
It’s wonderful that the dogs have their own snoozing couch.

Did the female coyote come back? Are your turkeys and deer (and dogs) safe?

I have not seen her. But that doesn’t mean she didn’t come back. I always act as if the coyotes are nearby.
